One is straight away struck by a paucity of words availed to expound this chanced-upon poiesis born in crevasses of cultural hybridity and nourished in the no man's lands of ascetic transmutation

Tracing the non-figurative: two clear objectives

The celebrated French "hidden" abstract painter Rene LAUBIES, died in Malabar on November 13, 2006. One year later we travelled there alone and spent one month in the very same places where Laubies spent his final days on earth.

We had two clear objectives in going there. Firstly, we went to experience for ourselves the environment in which Laubies had passed five great late-winter seasons of life. Secondly, we ventured to establish with precision the events of Rene's final days, his death and the occurrences immediately thereafter. Our data raised far more questions than answers.
